PROJECT TOPIC- EFFECT OF MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM ON ORGANIZATIONAL EFFICIENCY
In response to the time sensitivity of management information system, there is need for using machines instead of people to deliver data to management and staff to enable them to analyze and give management an effective basic for decision making. Therefore, the means that there will be a need to advanced technologies, which process data to information. This is otherwise referred as to information technology. This study therefore assess the effect of management information system on organizational efficiency using Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation as a case study.
- BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
Management Information System is defined by Hoopen and Page (2007) as “the sum of all tools, techniques and procedures used by the business to process data”. Fisher and Kenny (2010) suggested that organizations infuse information systems into their operations so as to enhance competitiveness and facilitate business growth and success.
On the other hand, Laudon and Laudon (2011) believed that information systems are embedded in organizations and are the react of standard operating procedures, work flows, politics, organizational culture and structure. Although organization have different information systems because they have varying information needs, they all strive for competitive advantage through continuous improvement; re-evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of their management information system (Shaffey & Wood, 2005).
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the information system to examine the course of action taken to implement changes to the existing is practices and to share experience and lesion learnt from the change process and the effect on the organization’s performance.
In a famous proprietorship business, the owner is aware of all that is going on within the organization as he does the work all by himself. As the work of the business expands as a result of growth and development, more hands are to be employed to enhance effective and efficient business life.
The information they provide are below:
Not property integrated
Not available in proper format
To reduce these difficulties of traditional information system approaches, new computer-oriented management information system is involved which is known as the management information system.
Human being that work in an organization have some need to satisfy. Thus, the desire to satisfy these needs make people to work. A need is accompanied by a state of drive or tension which give rise to a behavior directed towards the satisfaction by the need and thus allow the desire or tension.
Schindler (2004) believes that a man will like to put in his best to work and learn the simple joy of doing something well; if he feels pleased at producing something of value to the society and will be following pleasant emotion (satisfaction) for himself as well as his employer one of the way a worker may feel pleased with his work when the work provides him with the means of satisfying his needs. Hence, employees strive to put in their best to work in order to achieve this need readily, while embracing the aims and objectives of the organization.
It is in view of this that the researcher wants to take an analytical look at the significance of incentive schemes in the motivation of workers to performance using Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation as a case study.
PROJECT TOPIC- EFFECT OF MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM ON ORGANIZATIONAL EFFICIENCY
- STATEMENT OF RESEARCH PROBLEM
With the increasing competitors among industries today, there is no doubt that any organization without sound information management system will not strive with this awareness. Management have adopted a system of information dissemination in order to meet their set of goals.
This study is therefore out to disclose the recently of information system to business organization, how do managers make use of the information passed to them? What they think about the system and does it even have any effect on the worker behavioural performance.
- OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

- SCOPE OF STUDY
This research will be carried out solely in an oil industry. It will also concentrate on information system of management, which is one of the technologies process developed to assist management on gathering and processing information effectively.
- SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Successful completion of the study will provide first hand information on the impact of information system on management performance in organizations using Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation as a case study. Industrialization will be a way of recession of industries. Therefore, this study is important since information system seeks to assist in improving the effectiveness and efficiency by providing more timely and relevant management.
Information and subsequent performance of the organization hoped that the successful use of the information system in the oil industry would be very much more useful to the desire goals of economic development and transformation.
- LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
In the course of carrying out this research work, the researcher encountered a lot of problems such as time constraints, financial constraints and a sense of disappointment, while keeping appointment with the respondents.
The most crucial of all the constraints, is the academic stress due to the crash programme embedded upon by the school during the course to writing this project. Furthermore, information gathered from both questionnaire distributed and personal interview conducted were not enough to draw the conclusion of this study, so, the researcher consulted other relevant textbooks, journals, magazines, seminar papers in the library.
- OPERATIONAL DEFINITION OF TERMS
The following terms are defined as used to aid understanding.
Management: Management is the act of organizing and coordinating individuals and group activities towards achieving a collective goal. It is the process of getting things done or through people.

These are valuable rewards granted to individual or groups that recognizes differences in achieving result either in cash or kind (material).
This is that person who employs people to work for him and in return pays for their services funder a contract of employment.
This is the coordination of people for the achievement of common goal through division of labour and function and also the hierarchy of activities.

Information is basically the output of a data processing system i.e. we get information when we subject data to a series of processing operations so that the meaningful form of the data can now be converted into meaningful form for users.
A system is a set of interacting component that operates together to accomplish a purpose of instance a business system is a collection of people machine, and organization to accomplish a set of specific function. It can also be defined as a collection of entities or element which receive certain inputs and is constrained to act according to some rules to produce certain outputs with the objectives of optimizing some functions of the input and output.
