The study was coordinated in order to further sensitize organization effect of training on workers performance in Oredo Local Government Council, Edo State. The study identify and amend the benefit derivable for training and development of workers by companies and also the major problems that could militate against the successful implementation programmes. Questionnaire were administered and hypothesis tested which reveal that training and development enhances worker performance in organization which ultimately translate into efficiency, effectives and increase in productivity. In determining the primary method, secondary method and oral interview the sample percentage was used in the course of analyzing the data, the researcher came up with the following findings that training has significant impact on employee; efficiency and that the organization has specific methods of training. Based on the findings above the following recommendations are made the Union Bank Nigeria Plc workers should be informed about training programme to facilitate their participation. The research strongly believes that if the above recommendations are adopted workers efficiency will be improved.





  • Background to the Study

Training and development of worker in organization is continuous for effective performance. Money spend in training and development is not wasted because organization stand to benefit by way of increase in productivity training and development enable the worker to acquire skill necessary for the discharge of their responsibilities or job more than confidentiality.

Training and development provides opportunities for people to acquire the skill and knowledge needed to perform the job presently and also reposition them properly for future needs of the organization worker development as a continuous trend in an organization is aimed as improving the skill and abilities of employees. So as to equip them for effective and efficient performance in order to increase productivity and output. Organization effectiveness is dependent on how well worker are trained, it is through training and development that an organization can be provided with component work force therefore, all trained must be able to give new knowledge to enhance skills and able to change attitudes ideally basically, training is a conclusion in which people can learn and improving enterprise operation.

Training leads to increase in productivity through more output with less outputs thus less cost organized for skills and knowledge acquisition result for permanent change in employee altitude and behavior. However some firm do not see the need for training, they consider money and time spent on training as wasted, consequently, they do not put place any training programme for their workers.

1.2    Statement of the Problem

Despite it benefit importance many organization do not take the issue of training and development seriously as a result worker are not sufficiently motivated towards increase productivity, the study is being undertake to address these issue and proffer necessary  suggestion.

1.3     Research Questions

The following research question form the basic of the study

  1. Is there any relationship between worker performance and training?
  2. Is training the only avenue for improving worker performance?

1.4     Objective of the Study

  1. To identify the relationship between worker performance and training.
  2. To find out if training is the avenue for improving worker performance.
  • To ascertain if worker training have positive effect on organizational performance.

1.5     Statement of the Hypotheses

(1)     There is no relationship between worker performance and training

(2)     Training is not the only avenue for improving worker performance.

1.6     Scope of the Study

This research covers training on worker performance using Oredo Local Government Council, Edo State.

1.7     Significance of the Study

The study will provide sufficient information to researcher as well companies of the need for development of their worker. The benefits derivable on the part of organization are innumerable since worker is better equipped with skill that enhances problem identification and way of talking them.


1.8     Limitation of the Study

In an attempt to carry out a study on the effect of training of worker’s performance, there were problems encountered that limits the success of the project, such as:

Time Factor: There was little time for the researcher to gather all the necessary data required in carrying out this study.

Data Collection Problem: Availability of current and accurate data made things difficult for the researcher.

1.9     Operational Definition of Terms 

Definition of terms as applicable to the project is as follows:

Training: Any concept aimed at directing human resources potentials.

Management: The accomplishment of organizational objective through planning, organizing, co-coordinating and controlling.

Productivity: A measure of output relationship. Using less input to achieve more output.

Job: These are tasks or response responsibility assignment to worker.

Employees: A group of persons who are in relationship to execute a job for price called wages. (Imafidon, 2000).

Training: It is an organized procedures by which people learn and acquire knowledge, skill for a definite purpose. It is a process of updating old skills as well as developing new skills in a particular job (Gold, 1986).

Management: These are people who controls the way an organization operates, especially by controlling the way people are used and money spent. (Cambridge University Dictionary, 2002)

Efficiency: This means the quality of being able to perform ones work diligently and well. It also be regarded as the ratio of output to input. (Beach 1975).

Learning: It is a complete process of acquiring knowledge, understanding, skills and values in other to be able to adapt to the environment in which one live (Osoba, 2005).

Trainer: This is the person who trains workers in organization (Yodder Dele, 1970).

Trainee: A person who is learning or practicing new skills, especially ones who conducted with a job (America English Dictionary)

Development: A course of action designed to enable the individual to realize his potential for growth in the organization. It is any learning activities that is directed towards future need rather than present needs, it is concerned more with career growth (Osoba, 2005).

Organization: It is the arrangement of the people within a business so that they act as one co-ordinate body also it is a net work of human relationship in this case, with aim of making profit (Luthan, 2002).

Business: It is defined as all standard and industrial activities that provides goods and services to maintain and improve over quality of life.

Effectiveness: This is related to accomplishment of desired objective goals or actions, the measure of a company effectiveness mainly is the determination of the extent to which such company has achieved its goals or objective
