PROJECT TOPIC- IMPACT OF BENEFITS AND INCENTIVES ON THE WORKERS PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIAN ORGANIZATIONS

ABSTRACT

This research work, focuses on the impact of benefits and incentives on the workers performance in Nigerian organizations. However, incentive is anything used to drive, urge or motivate workers in the organization to improve on their performance or work efficiently and effectively. It is equipment in the tool kit of the human resources manager, which can e used to reward efforts and maintain good level of job satisfaction. The main purpose of this study is to know how incentives and benefits will impact on the performance of workers in Nigerian organizations. Therefore, some research questions were investigated such as, incentive and benefit packages improve organizational workers in Nigeria, and organizational workers are satisfied when they are provided with incentives. The population of workers in EBADEP was studied in which the sample size was determined. Questionnaire method was used to collect data and data collected were analyzed through simple percentages. In this, some findings were achieved which base on both positive and negative effect such as poor Salary payment, provision of incentives, poor quality and irregular payment of incentives etc. and also recommendations were suggested such as organization should understand the structure of organization and provide incentives and benefits that are commensurate to their workers levels, organizations should provide both cash incentives as sick pay, leave allowance and non-cash incentives as holiday leave, annual leave etc. however, organizations can improve the performance of workers, if only the workers are provided with good quality and regular incentives.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the study

This is sure and an established fact, that at the end of work, workers are provided with entitlement as salaries and wages including other benefits. This payment is done based on the workers quotas contributed toward achieving organization objective. But despite the fact that, there is an improved productivity, workers are provided with incentives and benefits to ensure their satisfactions, which

will drive them to contribute immensely in the realization of organizational objective. Therefore, this phenomenon has to be considered, provided, improved and in enintained for effective sustenance of human resource in the organization. To channel workers to effective and efficient performance towards organizational objective, organization owes them the function of providing benefits and

incentives together with their salaries and wages. According to DERER, HALL & STEPHEN; incentive scheme should only be used where they are appropriate to the need of business and where they can clearly contribute to the achievement of organizational objective. Employers also seek to use payment content to motivate employees and thus, to improve their performance. However, it is pertinent to

note here that production enhances when employers offer good compensation to their workers and also with incentives and benefits to attract their performance. Even FW Taylor emphasized this in the classical theory of management called scientific management during a test conducted to improve production in one of the industries he worked. Therefore, on the general note, organizations should

provide and maintain good benefits and initiatives to arouse workers performance towards the realization of organizational objectives. But some workers are not improved on motivated on their performance even when they are provided with benefit and incentives or good compensation on the  other way round, some work hard toward achievement of organizational objective once they are

provided with incentives and benefits, it is based on this fact that, it is expedient to find out the actual censuses of this phenomenon. Moreover, organizations are here by advised to understand the essentiality of this study (Incentives and benefits) and embrace adequate maintenance toward improvement on productivity. If workers are satisfied invariably their performance will be improved

therefore, organizations especially Ebonyi state Agricultural development programme (EBADEP) must embark on good compensation to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of worker’s performance toward realization of organizational objective.
